After we pick you up from Cusco airport, we’ll take you to your hotel where you will be welcomed with some coca tea to help you start to acclimatising to the 3,400m/11,000ft Cusco altitude. Your first day will be easy to give you a chance to explore the beautiful city of Cusco, check out the artisan markets, maybe try some street food and get a good night’s sleep so you can be well-rested for your trip to Machu Picchu.
We’ll pick you up from your hotel at 8:00am to take the bus to the Sacred Valley. This bus will also take you to the town of Pisak, about 32 km/20 miles from Cusco. Here you can visit an artisan market, where natives of the area make hand-made clothing and native artifacts which make great souvenirs. You’ll then have lunch at a typical Andean buffet restaurant. After lunch you’ll visit the ruins of Ollantaytambo where you will see displays of amazing Inca architecture. The tour will end at 4:00pm, after which we’ll have three free hours, during which you can explore the town and find a tasty dinner on your own. We continue the tour at 7pm and catch the train to Aguas Calientes; the town at Machu Picchu, arriving at approximately 9:00pm. Your Machu Picchu tour guide will welcome you and brief you on what to expect the following day, including what time you’ll be going to Machu Picchu.
Your Machu Picchu tour guide will meet you at your hotel in the morning to take you to the bus stop. From there you’ll take the bus uphill for a 20 minute zig zag ride to the entrance of Machu Picchu. Your guide will take you on a tour including the famous Temple of the Seven Windows and the Solar Clock. The tour lasts about two hours, and after that you’ll have all the time you need to explore Machu Picchu on your own. We will board the train back to Ollantaytambo around 6:00pm, depending on availability. We will then take a private car back to your hotel in Cusco by about 10:30pm.
Depending on the departure time of your flight, we will take you back to the airport for your return.
